William M. Wagner ScD CHSP CHCM, Vice President for Education, Research & Development Senior Consultant
Dr. Wagner is a graduate of Emory University (BS, Physics), Georgia Institute of Technology (MS, Physics and Nuclear Engineering), and The Johns Hopkins University (ScD, Environmental Health: Lung Disease), and is retired from the US Public Health Service (US PHS). His appointments with the PHS included the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, as a Senior Scientist, and at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) in Washington DC, as a Research Scientist and Health Administrator for the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. During this tenure, he also worked with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations® (the Joint Commission®), the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), World Health Organization (WHO), Underwriter’s Laboratory (UL), and the College of American Pathology (CAP). He has also worked as an independent consultant for such clients as Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Promina Health System, Kimberly Clark Corporation, and Abbott Laboratories.

Presently, Dr. Wagner is the Vice President for Education, Research & Development as well as a Senior Consultant. As Vice President, he oversees all of the education programs and products for SMS, Inc., including the EC Seminars, EC-Online™, and Newsletters. He directs the development of new educational and informational products and services. As a Senior Staff Consultant, he conducts audits of Environment of Care® Programs, prepares healthcare facilities for the Joint Commission® survey, and develops Emergency Management Programs. In addition, he conducts specialized seminars on a variety of topics for healthcare organizations, including the Joint Commission® Environment of Care® standards, Emergency Preparedness, and Preconstruction Risk Assessment. Dr. Wagner currently is a member of the Association of Infection Control Practitioners and Epidemiologists (APIC) Emergency Preparedness Committee.
